Do you use the INTERVALOMETER to take the 10 shots back to back, or just do it manually? Great video!

Great video Mike. I live in the North East of England not far from a place called Sycamore Gap. It was an area near Hadrian’s Wall with a beautiful sycamore tree sat in a valley that became even more famous after appearing in the movie ’Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves’’. Two idiots decided to fell the tree last September. Very sad.

I just use the timer to avoid vibration when the lightning is not frequent. And take 5-10 exposures. Aperture will depend if it’s too dark or not.

This is one of those lenses for which I have zero interest to buy myself but I'm just happy that it exists 😁 It's excellent. Plain and simple. One of those lenses you can point at to show that the Z mount system is awesome. For me it's just too short. So I went with the 180-600.

Nice shot! I just picked up a pano head after similar frustration with ball head.

Storm Chaser here...I find it MIND BOGGLING that you can get lightning that clear at 800 ISO. When i'm running f/2.8 I usually end up needing 100, maybe 200 if the storm is far away, or else every strike within 10 miles blows out completely. Also, maybe it's a plains thing just because of the dynamics, but find myself not liking shots with over 10 seconds, mostly because the clouds end up blurred due to their movement in the exposure. That's not really as much of a concern in monsoons as the intra-cloud lightning isn't constant like it is during plains supercells.

What is the best image size for focus stacking? I'm using a D850 and when I have it set on large file size the PS output is too large to send back to LR. Thoughts? I gather you are in the east valley, given the times you have photographed the Superstitions!! I'm in Central Phoenix. Thanks.

Very helpful and lovely shots! One big question: can your two-second shutter delay be used in combination with 3-shot exposure bracketing? It seems not because the shutter must be held to do bracketing? Tell me it ain't so! Second less important Q: when you've saved settings in U1, will those settings mostly stay as you move over to aperture-preferred on top dial? Many thanks in advance, for responding.

That was a excellent explanation.

Nice and clear, with the detail about how to calculate the shutter speed by multiplicating the normal shutter speed by the ND value ( f.e. 1000) to get the value with the filter on.

Lovely Sonoita images, Mike!! 🌩 I go Full-Rambo on the bright sky bolts! ND 6, electronic shutter, continuous mode, and let 'er rip at ~0.4 seconds per exposure. (As fast as the memory allows.) As twilight sets in I remove the ND and keep blazing away with continuous.

I´m really interested in buying this lens but very different opinions depending on who is rating it. In this video its super sharp and good all over. Watched another video where there is a warning about how unsharp it is at over 300mm. Who should I believe ?

My first thought was, what if you've got one of the many species of birds in the water? So many locations has this element in it, thus the question! New subscriber, as I liked how you stuck to the topic, reminded me to look for Photopills, which I have...and I haven't done any long exposure for quite some time, so looking for some pointers. So far I just have a circular polarizer, so I'll give that a try, and perhaps upgrade if needed!

With 3 square filter slots--as you have here--the M15 does in fact vignette until 17mm on the Nikon 14-24 f/2.8G--something plainly documented in Haida's own materials. I must say that your not mentioning that is a rather disappointing oversight.

Completely agree brother. If I ever have an image where I still can't get everything in focus at F11, then I'll usually open back up to F8 and focus stack. The degradation of quality on anything above F16 with my lenses is very obvious. Great video mate :)

I wish this held a little more weight. I'm looking for something to hold my 400, a TC, and a Canon 1DX body (a little over 7kg), plus incidentals like a rain hood, etc.. An 8-12kg limit would be more usable for telephoto landscapes. Unfortunately, I cannot find anything beteween this 6kg category (along with the K&F) and the huge upgrade to the $1100 Arca Swiss D4. Surely there must be some middle ground as a geared head is perfect for telephoto use.
